This knife was crafted in the ‘Beginning Knife Making’ class at Woodcraft.
This is the contents of the knife kit and the wooden handle blanks.
For my handle I chose my two favorite colors, yellow and purple. The wood is Purpleheart. The liners are there to ensure that the glue holds and lasts a long time.
This is what the handle looks like once the rough shape has been created. The holes are there for the blade pins to hold the knife together.
This shows the inital shaping plan for the wood blanks.
The top and bottom of the blanks and polished and processed before they can be attached to the blade.
After inserting the handle pins.
This is after the handle has been ground down to be flush with the blade.
The final shape has been achieved. The wood is polished but not treated.
This is the knife after a few coats of tung oil and then wax.
Chunky handle wood is ready for shaping.
